The Mikrokosmos encompass 153 progressive piano pieces in 6 volumes and were written between 1926 and 1937.

In volume three, there are 30 pieces with the use of folk material quite prominent. Devices include thirds, sixths & triads, melody against double notes, variations, chromatic invention, five tone scale, & others. The titles of the pieces are written in English, French, & German. There is an interesting preface printed in English.
